KMMG Achieves 100,000th Vehicle Milestone

Posted on September 3rd, 2010 by Patrick Sands

West Point, Ga. — On Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia, Inc. (KMMG) celebrated production of the 100,000th Kia Sorento at its West Point, Ga. automobile manufacturing facility.

KMMG started production of the all new 2011 Kia Sorento CUV on Nov. 16, 2009. The 100,000th Sorento was a brand new SX model that joined the LX and EX trim packages on KMMG’s assembly line in August.

“To produce this many top quality vehicles in less than one year is a testament to the hard work of our more than 1,900 KMMG team members,” said Stuart Countess, director of the quality subdivision. The brief ceremony was scheduled during the lunch break so that team members could attend the proud occasion.

Coincidentally, vehicle 100,000 was the same color as the first vehicle: snow white pearl. The vehicle has since been allocated to one of Kia’s 700 dealers nationwide.

Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia, Inc. (KMMG) is the first manufacturing site in North America for Kia Motors Corporation based in Seoul, Korea. KMMG is located on 2,200 acres in West Point, Georgia, and is scheduled to begin production in the last quarter of 2009. At full capacity, the plant will have the ability to produce 300,000 vehicles annually and employ approximately 2,500 team members.
