Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia stocks local food pantries

Posted on September 6th, 2013 by Patrick Sands

(West Point, GA.) Sept. 5, 2013 –Team members at Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia, Inc. (KMMG) in West Point recently donated nearly 1,000 canned food items to the food pantry at LaGrange Personal Aid and The West Point Food Pantry.

“We think this is great,” Jim Rouquie, coordinator of the West Point Food Pantry, said when his organization saw the food items KMMG team members donated. “We are always working on a minimal budget and this helps us out a lot.”

The West Point Food Pantry provides food to families in need on Wednesdays. They serve between 12 and 15 families per week and have provided food to as many as 40 families in one week.

Barbara Hand, coordinator of the food pantry at LaGrange Personal Aid, serves 30 to 40 families on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“The donation from Kia team members is terrific,” she said. “We are a United Way agency, but we depend on donations from people and organizations to supplement the need in the community.”

KMMG team members from each of the shops donated canned food items throughout the month of August.

“We are very proud of the generosity of our team members,” said Randy Jackson, vice president of human resources and administration. “Whenever they are invited to participate in an opportunity that helps someone else – whether it’s donating food, painting a house or cleaning up the lake – they are always eager to lend a hand. This is part of our Kia Way culture and corporate social responsibility – to give back to communities that surround us.”
