KMMG Achieves ISO 14001 Environmental Certification

WEST POINT — Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia, Inc. (KMMG) announced today that it has received ISO 14001 environmental certification, another important milestone for Kia’s first North American automobile assembly plant.
“This is a great achievement for KMMG,” said Steve Garner, KMMG’s manager of facilities. “It demonstrates our commitment to the environment and our community. It also sets a standard for KMMG to continually improve environmental performance. We will only be content with excellence when it comes to the environment.”
KMMG will be audited annually against the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) standard to determine its continuous improvement and commitment to this program. At the end of three years, KMMG will participate in a recertification audit that will be equivalent to the audit completed January 25-28.
Garner said that everyone on the team affiliated with KMMG should be proud of this achievement.
“We are successful because of our one system, one team commitment to ISO 14001 EMS,” he said.
Garner also noted that KMMG’s ongoing dedication to the environment is evident in the solar panels that provide power for the onsite canteen as well as the cleanliness of water and land at the site.
ISO 14001 is an international standard that provides guidelines for the development of an environmental management system. This environmental management system establishes a systematic approach for KMMG to achieve its commitment to environmental excellence.
Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia, Inc. (KMMG) is the first manufacturing site in North America for Kia Motors Corporation based in Seoul, Korea. KMMG is located on 2,200 acres in West Point, Georgia, and is scheduled to begin production in the last quarter of 2009. At full capacity, the plant will have the ability to produce 300,000 vehicles annually and employ approximately 2,500 team members.
